Florida Medical Marijuana Sales Booming During Coronavirus Pandemic

Local Marijuana

Florida says that there are roughly 334,000 medical marijuana patients in the state. Medical marijuana is one item that Floridians have stocked up on. Dispensaries across the state sold over 1 ton of medical marijuana in a single week.

Sales are up 30% statewide, according to ABC Action News. This year, the state has seen an increase of about 30,000 medical marijuana patients. To keep patients and staff safe during the pandemic, many dispensaries are offering curbside no-contact pickup service as well as delivery.

Even medical marijuana delivery drivers are taking extra precautions to limit as much personal contact with patients as possible.

One dispensary is asking patients to hold their IDs by their faces so that a picture can be taken. This acts as proof the patient is registered, is proof of delivery and also acts as a signature for the delivery.

Vinit Patel of Curaleaf in Florida said, “We saw a tremendous spike in sales actually. Probably the first week of April, last week of March, when all of this news really started to become real here in the state of Florida.”

Several medical marijuana doctors are also offering services via telemedicine.

Curbside pickups and telemedicine appointments will cease in May, as long as provisions for these services are not extended.
