Gwen Graham Requests Florida Have Special Session for Medical Marijuana

CBD Florida

Former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham wants the Florida Legislature to hold a special session regarding medical marijuana. Florida’s Legislature failed to agree to the language in Amendment 2 to implement medical marijuana rules. The bill died on Friday, May 5.

Most key parts of Amendment 2 were agreed upon by the House and Senate, according to CBS Local Miami. They couldn’t agree on how many medical marijuana dispensaries a single company (treatment center) could operate would be permitted. The Department of Health has until July 3 to come up with its rules for dispensaries, patients, doctors and caregivers. The rules have to be implemented by October.

Graham said, “I watched my husband battle cancer and the sickening effects of chemotherapy. So many patients with cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis and other debilitating diseases could use medical marijuana as a way to treat their pain. The House voted 99 – 16 on HB 1397 to allow 100 dispensaries per treatment center, but the Senate chose not to vote on the issue. Graham said that failing to implement Amendment 2 is ignoring Florida’s voters. Graham has now entered the 2018 race for Florida Governor.
