Florida’s Legislature Begins Tackling Medical Marijuana Bills

Canna

Florida senators have a big task ahead of them this week as five medical marijuana bills are awaiting discussion. The lawmakers must also start working on determining what the final rules for Florida’s medical marijuana program will be. The five bills are all in an effort to determine which path the state should take for implementing laws.

The debate regarding medical marijuana policy will be started by Senator Dana Young, according to WLRN Miami – South Florida. One of the biggest questions facing the senators this week is how lenient should the rules be. Some senators wonder if Florida needs to start completely over from scratch.

Is the state going to keep its existing cultivators and processors or go with a different approach?

Those are just some of the difficulties plaguing lawmakers this week.

One potential businessman, Tom Murphy of Gulf Coast Canna Meds, said, “We want more permits, more licenses, and we want to do away with the vertically integrated market because it’s in restraint of trade. It flies in the face of everything we know as Americans and Floridians of free enterprise.”

Amendment 2 must be fully implemented by October.
