Gov. Scott Signs Bill Approving Medical Marijuana for Terminally Ill

Florida residents suffering from terminal illnesses officially have access to medical marijuana. Governor Rick Scott signed bill HB 307 into law in late March.

Voters in Florida are also gearing up to vote this November on broader terms for medical marijuana legalization.

HB 307 was not commented on by the governor, according to Sun Sentinel. House sponsor Matt Gaetz did reach out via Twitter post saying that the Governor displayed “heart and compassion” when signing the bill into law.

The bill gives terminally ill patients access to medical marijuana and expands the Right to Try Act that was signed into law in 2015. This law gives patients with terminal illnesses the right to give experimental drugs a try, drugs that are not approved by the FDA. Medical marijuana is now a part of that Act.
