Only Weeks Left for Florida Lawmakers To Decide Medical Marijuana Rules

The legislative session in Florida is almost over and it has yet to adopt rules and regulations for its medical marijuana program. There are just three more weeks for lawmakers to decide on the rules. Several issues are still slowing things up.

Lawmakers need to determine regulations for the number of marijuana business licenses that will be allowed along with what forms of medical marijuana will be permitted, according to Space Coast Daily.  Of all the states to legalize medical marijuana, Florida seems to be having the most trouble when it comes to rules and regulations. The way that doctors will prescribe medical marijuana also has lawmakers stumped.

Senate Bill 406, introduced by Senator Rob Bradley, will be heard by the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services next week. The bill seeks to scale the number of marijuana dispensaries and businesses in increments as the number of patients increases. The scaling of licenses would see its biggest jump once the patient base reaches 250,000 as five more business licenses would be awarded.
